Effect of Chemical Warm Mix Additive on the Properties and Mechanical Performance of Recycled Asphalt Mixtures

Newer technologies such as warm mix asphalt (WMA) and reclaimed pavement (RAP) have gained international approval been considered appropriate solutions that support the sustainability goals of highway sector. However, both present some shortcomings. The lower mixing compaction temperatures WMA reduce binder aging bond between aggregates coating binder, thus resulting in less rutting resistance higher moisture susceptibility. On other hand, RAP mixes tend to be stiffer more brittle than conventional hot (HMA) due effect aged binder. This tends increase crack propagation distresses. In an attempt overcome their individual shortcomings, this study investigated new concept a combined WMA-RAP technology. chemical additive Rediset LQ1102CE was utilized with mixtures incorporating low (15%), medium (25%), high (45%) contents. Dynamic modulus (DM) flow number (FN) tests were conducted investigate on behavior mixtures. dynamic |E*| mastercurves developed using sigmoidal model Franken used fit accumulated permanent deformation curve. results showed addition improved cracking reduced but kept within acceptable range except for containing content.
